Research: Digipak Research Consolidation

From all of my research on digipaks I have gained a lot of knowledge regarding the conventions of digipaks, specifically indie genre digipaks.  I now know more about the different genres and how they differ in designs. I have mostly decided to stick to conventions of digipaks as a form of marketing, as well as the conventions of my chosen genre (indie/alternative).

The digipak conventions I have decided to follow are:

  • A colour scheme throughout the digipak
  • A bright colour scheme
  • Band/artist's name
  • Title of the album
  • A tracklist
  • Album art on the inside cover
  • Album art on the CD

The Indie digipak conventions I have decided to stick to are:

  • Album art/photography instead of photo of artist
  • Simple, minimalist design
  • Minimalistic colour scheme
  • Complimentary colours
  • Colour scheme only consisting of a few colours
  • Simplistic line drawings
  • Interesting typography/calligraphy

I will follow these conventions as closely as I can, whilst keeping in mind the conventions of the indie/alternative genre when creating my own digipak.
