The first thing that I did in Adobe Illustrator was open up/import one of the images that I have chosen to edit to make it look like a line drawing. I used the anchor tool to outline the parts of the image that I wanted to carry through to the final design. This tool allows you to create a block black outline of the image, with full creative control over where the lines sit. Having this control was beneficial to me when it come to outlining the hand a bottle. I had taken a picture of the actors hand (with the ring on a finger), holding a bottle of water. I actually wanted to create a drawing that made this bottle look as though it was a can of alcohol. Cans of alcohol are stereotypically cheap and linked with men. This would help to build the narrative of the struggling male school teacher. In order to create this shape in place of the water bottle, I used the same drawing tool but instead of following the lines, I dragged them to create a shape that curved lower to look like a can.
I created the design in Illustrater by creating different anchor points where lines change direction or angle. I chose to draw in black and have a less weighty line so I could adjust the stroke after. Then I used to drawing tool in the and traced over the outside of the hand first, using the curvature line tool so I could follow the curves of the hands and fingers. After tracing the outside of the hand I change the drawing line to one that tapered off at the ends to draw the lines on the inside palm of the hand, so the drawing was as realistic as possible. I followed all of these techniques throughout all of the artwork that created using Adobe Illustrator.
