This is a collection of the drawings that I created using Adobe Illustrator. I used most of these in the digipak and magazine advertisement. I decided to create these drawings using Adobe Illustrator as the research that I conducted into digital art worked, showed that this application has multiple tools that enable the user to create detailed designs. Additionally, I knew of some peers who had previously used Adobe Illustrator for graphic design projects. I asked these peers how they used the software and received some advice on how to best use the tools available.
I chose to create and include the foliage to replicate some of the images that I included in the music video. I filmed plants when they were alive and then as they were dying to symbolise when the character was thriving and then when he was crippling under the stresses of dealing with alcoholism. The parallel here between the foliage and the character is intended to build the narrative of depreciation. Using this same symbolism on the CD cover and magazine advert is mean to draw familiarity between these and the music video; it would create a link between them for the audience to recognise.
Then, the cigarette packet is meant to symbolise addiction to further emphasise the how the character is becoming increasingly dependant on things such as alcohol and cigarettes. A modern audience, the target audience for my media products would be able to recognise the negative impacts that both smoking and drinking can have upon someone's life. Including this kind of paraphernalia will help with the audiences recognition of his decline in well-being. Much like the packet of cigarettes, the can of alcohol that I have drawn in the actors hand also shows how he is gripped by addiction.
